The NEW Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer | Review and Swatches

The quest for that perfectly flawless and almost airbrushed look is something many of us pursue, more so now with social media constantly on the rise and taking over the world. If there is one beauty brand that has figured out how to help us achieve a polished look using only makeup and no filters, well that has to be Charlotte Tilbury! Her Airbrush Flawless Filter range has become hugely successful over the years and includes bestsellers like the Airbrush Flawless Filter Powder (reviewed here) and the Airbrush Flawless Filter Foundation (reviewed in great detail here). So it came as no surprise to learn that Charlotte Tilbury is now expanding her iconic Airbrush Flawless Filter range to include an Airbrush Bronzer, a matte bronzing powder for face and body.

That Flawless Summer Feeling by Charlotte Tilbury

A few weeks ago I had the honor and privilege of attending the global launch of this much anticipated bronzer via zoom. Charlotte herself opened the meeting and welcomed everyone to the live video call. Details are available in my Highlights on Instagram @DailyCatL here.

I must admit, I was immediately taken over by her exuberance and larger than life personality. I could listen to Charlotte for hours!! She had such a natural, genuine way of engaging the audience. You could immediately tell she was very passionate about her brand and each and every one of her products was a labor of love for her! The theme of the meeting (and new launches) was ‘That Flawless Summer Feeling’ and who wouldn’t want to experience that all year round, right?! New releases included the Airbrush Bronzer along with a retractable Air-Brush Kabuki Brush sold separately, an all-matte eyeshadow palette called Dessert Haze and 3 new matte lipsticks in the shades: First Dance, Mrs. Kisses and Wedding Bells.

But in today’s post, I’ll be focusing on the new Airbrush Bronzer, Charlotte’s take of that ‘Summer Feeling’ in a compact! We’ll discuss its claim to fame, whether or not it fills a void in the bronzer category in the market place, and more importantly, in a beauty world abundant with products, is it a must-have?

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer

The new Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer is a matte, refillable bronzing powder that combines the benefits of skincare with the power of makeup. It comes in a super-sized rose-gold compact and is available in 4 shades that mimic the sun on every skin tone: fair, medium, tan and deep. It works for face and/or body. Refills will be available this summer starting in July (no exact date has been provided as of the date of this post).

Why The Need for Another Bronzer?

Charlotte Tilbury, always the trendsetter, identified some problems and thought hard to come up with solutions. According to Charlotte, existing offerings in the bronzer category were:

• drying on the skin. Charlotte’s Solution is using Silky Mica as an ingredient.
• cake easily upon application. Charlotte’s Solution is to use Smoothing Polymers.
• are either too orange or too muddy. Charlotte’s Solution is to come up with natural-looking, sun-kissed shades.
• offer no diversity in the range. Charlotte’s Solution is 4 shades that mimic the sun on every skin tone: fair, medium, tan and deep.
• most bronzers are not sustainable. Charlotte’s Solution is the design of a super-sized compact that is refillable.

Charlotte also knew immediately what she didn’t want in a bronzer:

• shimmering shades. Charlotte’s Solution is complexion-enhancing matte shades.
• that fake-tan look. Charlotte’s Solution is creating shades that mimic the way the sun naturally tans the skin.

• sits in the pores. Charlotte’s Solution is smoothing and pore-blurring.

My Experience

The new Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer has become my go-to bronzer at the moment. It’s just so easy to apply, looks almost imperceptible on the skin and the color is very natural on my complexion. I have shade no. 2 Medium, a beautiful soft, sun-kissed tan brown, a bit warm-toned but leaning more on the neutral side. It blends effortlessly and is buildable without caking, if you’re looking to use it as a contour shade or build the intensity of the tan. The compact is gorgeous and resembles a conch shell, if the sea was ever to create a rose gold one.

Charlotte Tilbury Permanent Bronzers

I thought I would show you a comparison of all permanent bronzers available from Charlotte Tilbury, just for reference. There are currently three permanent bronzers: two are included in face palettes (the FilmStar Bronze&Glow Duo previously reviewed here and the Glowgasm Palette reviewed in great detail here) and the newly launched Airbrush Bronzer. Of all three, the Airbrush Bronzer in Medium (no. 2) is a true matte and more of a true neutral. The FilmStar bronzer from the Light/Medium Palette has a bit of a sheen to it and leans on the cooler side. The Glowgasm Lightgasm bronzer is the warmest of the three and has finely-milled gold micro-shimmers running thru it. It also has a different texture. It’s more of a wet powder, densely packed.

I do love all three bronzers and would highly recommend them all. It just depends what you’re after. I would however suggest the Airbrush Bronzer over the other two options because it comes in its own compact, it’s matte and has a formula that includes skincare benefits.
