First Look at Tarte Cosmetics’ NEW Plant-Powered Beauty Line With Babassu

We try to eat well and live well, so naturally shouldn’t we try to take care of our skin well too? Tarte Cosmetics is simplifying our lives with the addition of a NEW cruelty-free, vegan, plant-powered line to their already extensive beauty repertoire! The range highlights Babassu as a key ingredient and is formulated free of parabens, mineral oil, gluten, phthalates, triclosan and sodium lauryl sulfate. Babassu is a moisture-rich ingredient from the rainforest that nourishes, moisturizes and soothes the skin. Currently, the Tarte launch includes three products: Baba Bomb Moisturizer, Micellar Magic Makeup Remover&Cleanser and Big Ego Mascara.

Often times with natural skincare there seems to be a tradeoff between clean ingredients and how effective the products actually are, so I decided to put the new Tarte line to the test! Here is the 411 on each of these products …

Tarte Baba Bomb Moisturizer

What a name! Tarte calls this vegan moisturizing cream ‘baba-bomb’ on their website and I happen to agree. Well, I wouldn’t use that language simply because I don’t think I’m cool enough to pull it off. But I absolutely LOVE this cream! It was the only moisturizer I brought with me on my recent trip to Miami.

I’ve been using this cream in the morning and at night for a little over two weeks now. It’s featherlight for the Florida hot and humid days, yet it provides heavyweight nourishment and hydration for the nighttime. It’s been clinically proven to hydrate for 24 hours and increase skin firmness.

Key Ingredients:

• babassu: nourishes, moisturizes & soothes
• avocado:natural oil rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, D, E & known for its skin-soothing & moisturizing properties
• green tea:powerful antioxidant that helps neutralize free-radicals, boosts hydration & helps fight signs of sun damage
• plant collagen: vegan collagen formulated from ginseng that helps hydrate skin and appear firmer

Made in Korea.

The moisturizer has a whipped texture which I adore, thus gliding seamlessly and melting onto the skin. I also love the tropical print on the packaging and the pump dispenser which provides just the right amount of product each time. It’s not scented, so that’s another big plus for my sensitive skin.

I’ve been so impressed with how well this moisturizing cream has performed on my skin and how well my makeup looks when I wear this cream that I would definitely repurchase!

Tarte Micellar Magic Makeup Remover & Cleanser

I wouldn’t recommend skimping on cleansing your face, but you certainly don’t have to spend hours by the hotel bathroom sink. Enter the genius world of micellar water and the ultimate ‘lazy girl’ hack!

Micellar water is a soap-free, no-rinse cleanser. I’ve tried several different ones over the years. The two I’ve loved the most are the ones from Bioderma (covered here) and Caudalie (reviewed here). Now I’m adding a third one to my list, the Tarte Micellar Magic! What impressed me the most about Tarte Micellar Magic is that it removes waterproof mascara, long-wear foundation and stubborn lipstick stains with one gentle swipe! And it does so without stripping the skin of its natural moisture and without leaving it feeling tight and dry! It removes makeup, dirt and grime while infusing the skin with babassu. You can use it on your face, but also on eyes and lips as it’s gentle enough even for those sensitive areas.

Tarte Big Ego Vegan Mascara

The idea behind this mascara is to ‘let your lashes be full of themselves’! Literally. It’s vegan, ultra-black and flake-free, lifting your lashes and providing volume for 16 hours. The plant-powered formula with Babassu nourishes and conditions, thus there are added benefits to choosing this mascara. The brush reminds of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, but the Tarte Big Ego wand is a bit smaller and not as wide. Thus, it ensures a more precise application without running the risk of getting mascara on your eyelids.

I took this mascara to Miami Beach with me and I’m happy to report it performed on my lashes exactly as advertised! It’s buildable, so you can easily layer for a more dramatic look if you so desire. The formula is creamy, not as wet as the NARS Climax Mascara and not as dry as Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes. It didn’t smudge in the heat and humidity characteristic of South Florida, leaving me thoroughly impressed!
