Today I’d like to turn your attention to another striking summer release, the new Urban Decay Cosmetics Lash Freak Mascara. The brand is always on a roll, continuously creating and recreating makeup products to help us express our personalities and let our imagination run free. And if this summer, masks (and I don’t mean the typical skincare beauty masks, but the face coverings meant to protect us against COVID-19) have become a fashion accessory and our new way of life, then why not focus on the eyes (since the rest of the face is obviously covered)!!! The bigger and bolder the lashes, the better! And Urban Decay is ensuring that’s exactly the look we can achieve with their new, fully-loaded Lash Freak Mascara!
But, I thought I should put things into perspective and present you with a comparison between their iconic Urban Decay Perversion and the latest Lash Freak Mascara. They do accomplish different results, so I am hoping this comparison will help you decide which one is for you! Read on for details …
Urban Decay Perversion Mascara vs. Urban Decay Lash Freak Mascara
The Urban Decay Perversion Mascara has been the brand’s iconic and bestselling mascara for a few years now. Last year, it was also released in a waterproof version. This summer, the brand released a multi-tasking mascara that delivers professional results by lengthening, defining, lifting and adding volume via one simple, easy and quick application! How is that possible? This innovative mascara comes with a unique, asymmetrical brush that does the trick! They called it the Lash Freak Mascara! I have tested both products and figured I would first show you the similarities and differences and then give you my personal opinion.
Similarities: Urban Decay Perversion vs. Urban Decay Lash Freak Mascara
Sticking true to Urban Decay values, both mascaras are cruelty-free. Although they are not waterproof, they are water-resistant, meaning they will not smudge or flake during hot and humid days, yet remove easily without tugging at the delicate eye area. They both come in a rich, deep black color. But this is where the similarities end.
Differences: Urban Decay Perversion vs. Urban Decay Lash Freak Mascara
So, I identified a long list of differences between these two mascaras, starting with where they are manufactured. Let’s look at each mascara individually.
Urban Decay Perversion Mascara:
- Made in Italy
- For every day looks
- Volumizing and lengthening formula
- Has a whipped formula infused with honey extract and marine collagen
- Buildable volume
- Criss-cross brush
- Triple-black pigments
Urban Decay Lash Freak Mascara:
- Made in the US of US and imported ingredients
- For bold, dramatic looks
- Lengthens (40x more length), defines and adds extreme volume (23.6x more volume)

My Experience and Thoughts
I have used the Perversion Mascara on and off over the years and I am a fan of this mascara. You can build it up, but I usually use it for daytime looks. It helps open up my eyes for a more polished look. I love the way the creamy formula coats my lashes and defines my eyes in a very natural way.
The Lash Freak Mascara instantly creates a more dramatic look, which for me, is a bit out of my comfort zone for day to day. The lashes are indeed very defined, but it’s also very obvious that I’m wearing mascara. I usually only apply 1 coat of the Lash Freak as for some reason, my lashes seem to clump together when I try to build it up. The brush also took some getting used to. I first use the asymmetrical part of the brush to load up the lashes with mascara and then use the tip of the brush to define and separate the individual lashes. You can also flip the brush over to the curved side (that has no bristles) and use that part for added lift. If you like intense, glamorous, bold lashes then the Lash Freak Mascara is a great option.
Both mascaras wear really well in the hot and humid Florida climate, without smudging or flaking. I also really like how intense and rich the color pigment is for both. They also both remove easily without tugging at my eyes.
Urban Decay Mascaras have the same price point and are available at Sephora and Ulta. What are your thoughts on the new Urban Decay Lash Freak Mascara? Have you found a mascara that works really well for your lashes?
