So last Friday I finally got a chance to snag the much-anticipated Marc Jacobs Shameless Youthful-Look 24Hrs Foundation with SPF25. I say much-anticipated because the beauty industry had been buzzing about this release for weeks. Throw the word ‘youthful’ in the description and you certainly have my attention. So now that I’ve fully test-driven this foundation, let’s talk pros, cons and more importantly: does it warrant a repurchase? Here’s my review of the Marc Jacobs Shameless Foundation …
Marc Jacobs Shameless Youthful-Look 24Hrs Foundation with SPF25
The shade range is rather extensive, including 29 shades aiming to have every skin tone covered. The foundation is advertised as:
- Clinically-tested for 24 hours of long wear
- Breathable and oil-free
- Self-setting finish
- Provides-skin hydration benefits and protection against complexion-dulling effects of pollution
- First-to-Market encapsulated SPF25 which means NO flash-back and NO grey undertones (one of the features that immediately attracted me to this foundation)
- Suitable for all skin types
Texture and Finish:
This foundation has a light, soft fluid texture that applies well onto the skin. The finish is not matte nor dewey, but looks very natural when the foundation is first applied. It is self-setting, which means you don’t necessarily have to use powder to set it. But if you live in a highly hot and humid climate like I do, then I would recommend using a setting powder such as the ones mentioned in my Luxury Makeup Worth the Splurge post here.
Coverage:
The coverage is light-to-medium. Although it’s advertised as ‘easily buildable’, I struggled to build it up to full coverage. Adding layers made this foundation look cakey on the face.
Packaging:
The packaging is incredibly slick and another key feature that attracted me to this foundation. It comes in an ultra-thin plastic bottle, making it perfect for traveling or for carrying around for touch-ups throughout the day.
Best way to apply:
I find that the best way to apply this foundation is using a brush. This is already a light-coverage foundation. The beauty blender absorbs too much of the product and the foundation ends up looking way too sheer on the skin. I like using my Artis Oval 6 covered in detail here or my Sephora Pro No. 56 Foundation Brush reviewed here.
Final Thoughts:
Although I do like a natural finish and don’t mind exposing some hyperpigmentation I have on my nose, the finish of this foundation did now wow me. It did nothing to camouflage my over-sized pores. Looking in the mirror, I just didn’t think it looked like second-skin the way my La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation does, see photos here.
After about 6 hours, the Shameless Foundation began to separate around my T-zone. Even though I had applied my trusted Elemis Pro Radiance Primer underneath (see primer review here) and had set it with powder. I was also surprised to see it cling to dry patches, accentuating some deeper lines I have along the sides of my forehead. Thus I didn’t find it very hydrating. I did like the finish a lot better when I used my Tatcha Dewey Mist (reviewed here) as a last step, sprayed over the foundation.
Overall, it seems like a lot of work for a foundation that doesn’t come cheap. As such, the Marc Jacobs Shameless Foundation did not pass the ‘repurchase test’ in my book. For instance, the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation reviewed here, comes at a fraction of the cost. It provides better coverage, lasting power and finish. And if you’re looking for a high-end alternative with skincare benefits, then the La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation reviewed in great detail here, is the one you need to check out.
So what are your thoughts on this highly-anticipated Marc Jacobs Shameless Foundation? Have you tried it yet and are you a fan? What are some of your light-coverage favorite foundations?

I have been waiting for your review and this seems likes ugh a bummer ! I really was hoping to pick this up. Maybe I’ll just have to snag a sample from Sephora and give it a test run but I’m weary still bc we have such humidity here in NC and the warmer weather here has already began to come , mixed with my drier skin that doesn’t sound so great after reading your review ! Thank you for being thorough Cat ! I don’t know that I want to waste my money

Hi Kristen, I was so excited to try this foundation and really wanted to love it. While I don’t hate it, I just don’t think it performs according to its claims. We are all so different, if you’re curious about this I would highly suggest getting a sample first. Also, have you tried the La Mer and YSL All Hours? The YSL All Hours, in particular, is a great option for hot and humid climates. ~ Cat L.

Always love your reviews because I know I can trust your opinion, and this is a perfect example. I’ve seen others list similar ‘cons’ to this foundation. I received it yesterday to try out and I’m looking forward to trying this in a couple of different ways.

Hey I have been trying to buy his foundation online but there are too many shades that’s making it difficult to choose. Can you help me what shade I could buy. I use MAC NC40 and huda beauty dulce de Leche. Thank you.
Cat says
Agreed, the shade range is quite extensive. I went back and forth between several shades before finally deciding on the shade I purchased. Because this foundation had been hit or miss with people, I would suggest getting a sample first and seeing how it performs on you. You might also want to swatch it in person and ask for several samples in different shades. ~ Cat L.

I just got this foundation a few days ago and I’ve really been loving it! For me it wears like second skin and doesn’t crease or separate, though I do agree that layering it can cause issues. I’ve also been using the artis oval brush to apply this, and goodness all the hype about the brush is true, it blends the foundation like a dream!
