There are days when I have some time and feel like glamming it up. I spend time doing my hair and makeup, carefully selecting an outfit and curating the accessories I will use. I believe style lives in layering and accessorizing (everything in moderation, of course!). And then there are days when I just need a no-fuss outfit.
Meet Gingham. Or the updated boy shirt, a shirt we all know, love and find comfort in. I picked mine up last year from J.Crew. It is one of those items I consider an investment piece: something you pay a little more for, but have already used a ton and anticipate using a lot in the future as well. I love the checked pattern in the classic black and white, the loose fit and light fabric that doesn’t make you hot. It is one of those shirts you can wear all year round and just switch up the accessories. Add a moto leather jacket in the spring, roll up the sleeves and wear it open over a cami in the summer, add a faux-fur vest in the fall and a belted wrap coat in the winter.
Dark, skinny jeans (similar here) are a staple for me in the Fall and Winter time. I find them a little dressier than leggings and jeggings, but still comfortable and a go with everything kind of item.
A sample sale purchase, the Christian Louboutin suede wedge pumps (similar here) were added to my shoe collection this summer. I adore everything about these shoes: the round toe (makes the shoe more casual), the suede leather, the midi heel.
As I was trying on the outfit, I realized it was missing something. A pop of color. So I added the very bright Diane Von Furstenberg silk scarf (similar here), a scarf I’ve loved for many years.
Note: I thought this post also provided an opportunity to clear the confusion between plaid and gingham. Gingham is always white plus a color and the checkers are the same size. Plaid can be any combination of colors and the checkers can and typically have different sizes.
Now it’s your turn: do you have any no-fuss outfits?

I love this scarf!!! And look. I have a pair of loubs but they are patent leather so I never know what to pair them with because they seem so dressy. Maybe I will just try with jeans:)

Thank you! The scarf I’ve had for ages, it’s one of those oldies but goodies :). Patent leather Louboutins are and have been on my Wish list for a while now! I’m hoping soon :):):) (fingers crossed!)

Thank you! Sometimes Saks and Neiman Marcus has them on sale. Rue La La is also a good source.
