If you’re dealing with dark under-eye circles, hyperpigmentation, blemishes, acne scarring, discoloration and redness, color correcting is a technique you’ll want to try. Lancôme recently came out with these full-coverage Teint Idole Ultra Wear Camouflage Correctors that help conceal skin concerns. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to tackle the topic here on the blog. I have a medium-toned olive complexion and deal with a number of skin issues from genetic dark circles to hyperpigmentation, pesky acne scars and redness. I was incredibly excited to put the new Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Camouflage Correctors to the test and share my experience.
What Is Color Correcting
Color Correcting is a popular makeup technique that uses various colors to camouflage your skin concerns. It is a process based on the color wheel we learned about in school and based on the principle that colors directly across from each other on the wheel cancel each other out.
How Does Color Correcting Work
Thru thoughtful application of various colors, you can actually conceal concerns such as sallowness, redness or dark spots to balance out your skin tone and create a flawless complexion. It might sound a bit intimidating, but it’s so easy to incorporate it in your daily beauty routine!
Here’s a roadmap to help guide you in choosing the right shade. I am using the Lancôme Teint Idole Correctors as an example:
- Green: Neutralizes redness for light to medium skin tones. Think blemishes and breakouts.
- Yellow: Brightens dullness for light or medium skin tones, also minimizes dark spots and circles for fair complexions.
- Lavender: Brightens sallowness for light to medium skin tones. It creates the appearance of a more radiant-looking complexion.
- Peach: Minimizes dark spots, dark circles and acne scars for medium skin tones.
- Orange/Red: Minimizes dark spots, dark circles and acne scars for deeper skin tones.
- Brick Red: Minimizes dark circles, spots and acne scars for deep skin tones
- Universal Highlighter: Use to highlight skin from a subtle sheen to full-on glow.
The Lancôme Teint Idole Correctors feel lightweight on the skin and won’t cake or crease throughout the day. The formula is creamy and easy to blend, a little goes a long way. My favorite is the Peach one. I simply dab it around the under-eyes first and let it dry. Then I follow with my concealer. There is a detailed post on How I Manage My Under-Eye Dark Circles here.
How to Apply Color Correctors
I typically almost always use a Peach corrector on my under-eyes, as mentioned above. However, if I’m also battling blemishes or want to conceal my hyperpigmentation or cover some of the redness around my nose, then here’s how to best apply the correctors:
- Step 1: Complete your skincare routine and prime the face for makeup application. My current favorite primers are the Tatcha Silk Canvas, which works wonders at covering pores and Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow, previously reviewed here.
- Step 2: Apply color corrector on trouble areas based on skin concern. I use my Sephora Pro 57 Concealer Brush or damp Beauty Blender to blend it in. The color corrector will work to even out the complexion prior to applying foundation.
- Step 3: Follow with foundation, concealer and the rest of your makeup.
All skin types and skin tones can benefit from color correcting. Is this a makeup technique you’re interested in trying? Or have you tried it yet? Please share in the comments below.

Thank you for stopping by. I have a few from Urban Decay as well, I really like them. The Lancome formula is a bit thicker, the concealer feel creamier. A little definitely goes a long way with these. Hope you enjoyed the post and found it helpful. ~ Cat L.
