My very first high-end foundation back in the day was the original Guerlain Lingerie de Peau. I remember trying out some samples I received, not really having any expectations at all, and then being in complete awe at the skin-like finish and luminosity this foundation managed to impart. My love for luxury makeup was instantly ignited and I began delving into a beauty realm unlike any other! And of course, over the years temptation got the best of me. I parted ways with my original Lingerie de Peau when I discovered the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk and more recently the La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation I previously covered here.
But when I found out that Guerlain was releasing a new version of my beloved Lingerie de Peau, it felt like preparing for a reunion with an old and dear friend. I simply could not wait to meet the latest Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Aqua Nude!
This much anticipated fluid foundation was released back in September and comes in 9 shades, suitable for all skin types. I have two of the shades to show you today. Let’s dive in!
Formula
The formula of this foundation is quite dreamy! It feels ultra-lightweight light on the skin and has a semi-sheer, natural coverage. The water-infused formulation intensely hydrates the skin to provide long-lasting comfort and to reveal a healthier, younger-looking complexion. There are some key features, all proprietary to Guerlain, that lend unicity to this foundation, making it one-of-a kind:
- Guerlain’s Aqua Plump technology – ensures the water is evenly distributed over the entire surface and boosts hydration levels
- Interlaced Evanescent Micro-Mesh – allows volatile oils to evaporate (hence the light, bare-skin feel of this foundation), leaving behind an invisible film that helps to smooth, cover imperfections, improve the skin’s texture and even out the skin tone
- Long-Wearing Polymer – veils the contours of the face to protect makeup from sweat, sebum and water throughout the day
Although the shade range is not extensive, Guerlain has done an excellent job creating a formula that not only blends like a dream, but it also seems to adapt well to differences in skin tone and complexions. For instance, the Natural shade I have seems slightly darker than my skin tone and a little peachy when swatched on my arm (see photo below), but when applied and blended on the face it looked like a great match.
The formula also contains SPF20 which offers some sun protection, although I always advocate wearing regular SPF and not relying on the SPF provided by your makeup.
I don’t typically mind the Guerlain signature violet scent, but I do find it a little stronger in this particular foundation. Luckily, it doesn’t linger much longer after application, but if you do happen to mind scents and fragrances, then you might want to give this a whiff first.
Coverage
Although the coverage is light to medium and semi-sheer, I was surprised by how well this foundation concealed the red spots I have on my cheeks and brightened my undereyes with just one layer. It is a buildable foundation and does layers well without looking cakey, so it is possible to create medium coverage.
Texture
The texture is soft, fluid and truly feels like the most subtle lingerie (hence the name). It is one of those long-wear foundations that you apply in the morning and then hours later you forget you’re even wearing makeup! It delivers a silky touch to the skin, smoothing and slightly plumping. Simply shake up the bottle first to allow the water and pigments to mix evenly.
Here are swatches of the two shades I have (Top Shade is 03N Natural and Bottom Shade is 04N Medium):
Finish
This is a very natural-looking foundation. The finish is slightly dewey, radiant and very natural. It truly looks and feels like second-skin, almost imperceptible to the naked eye. I feared initially that this foundation might not work well for my oily T-zone and the humid Florida climate especially while we’re still showing sizzling temperatures of 91F!!! But what I found most interesting is that even though this is a dewey finish foundation, it veils the surface of the skin to revive the complexion without making it look shiny. I did notice some separation around my T-zone by the end of my day, 12 hours after the initial application, even though I did wear primer underneath. But overall, I am quite pleased with how this foundation wore throughout the day. I simply can’t get enough of the skin-like look and feel of the Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Aqua Nude!

Thank you for reading, Dom. I must admit this foundation is now my most favorite from Guerlain. I find the finish slightly more natural and luminous than the original Lingerie de Peau. I highly recommend getting a sample and trying it out! The shade range is rather limited but hopefully you can get a good color match. ~ Cat L.

The foundation sounds beautiful, perfect for everyday wear! I actually have never tried Guerlain makeup apart from the Meteorites 🙂 x

Thank you for stopping by, Dagmara. I think you would actually love this foundation. It’s so hydrating on the skin and the finish is very natural. It does have a strong violet scent and the shade range is limited. So I would definitely recommend getting a sample first. It is indeed perfect for every day! ~ Cat L.

It sounds like a beautiful foundation and the fact that it was able to cover your red spots on your cheeks (a problem of mine too) sounds very promising and like a coverage that I would enjoy.
Did you have to get two shades to mix to achieve your right color or just enjoy having them around for different seasons? Thank you for sharing your thoughts darling ???? Always enjoy your feedback ?
Cat says
Thank you for stopping by, Anxhela. The coverage is perfect for every day and the finish is so natural and luminous. I wasn’t sure which shade would match my skin tone better these days given that I’m still sporting a tan. Turned out the 3N Natural was a perfect match! ~ Cat L.

I didn’t even realise that Guerlain had released a new foundation thanks to your blog it’s now on my radar. You are right Skin is the the trend and it seem Guerlain are answering-to the current beauty requirements by including Skincare in their foundation. I don’t know how I feel about the scent as I find their products too fragranced at times. Beautiful images Cat Esnath @ http://www.prettypeachblossom.com

Thank you for stopping by, Esnath. Same here, I have days when the fragrance in products really troubles me and Guerlain are known for their strong violet scents. I will say that luckily the scent doesn’t linger much longer after application, but you might want to try out a sample first of this foundation first. The finish is simply sublime! ~ Cat L.

First of all, your skin looks amazing without makeup! I really like how natural the foundation looks, and you’re right, the shade blends in very well with your skin tone! I’m a big fan of the natural finish myself, so this is right up my alley. Thank you for sharing this Cat, will definitely have to check this out when I’m ready for a new foundation!

Guerlain was my first luxury makeup brand too, and i got into it all because of Guerlain! I didnt realize this replaces the older LdP foundation! It looks beautiful on you, though your skin doesnt need much concealing.
Janine says
This foundation sounds and looks beautiful! The sheerest foundation I have is VitaLumiere by Chanel and that’s not really sheer at all. Let me rephrase… the lightest covering foundation I have…
I would love to try this one. I have been looking for something sheer to wear on the weekends. I thought about Shiseido but this one looks gorgeous!
Lyna says
It is my new favorite foundation! I love the finish and the texture and that meteorites scent is just dreamy!!

This is on my foundation ‘must look into’ list as I am all for a lightweight natural finish.
As I have got older, I find myself wanting way less on my skin and this sounds gorgeous.
A great recommendation and thorough review – Thank you so much Cat, I am bound to love it!
