Charlotte Tilbury has been winning over fans for the past 7 years with her exquisitely elegant products at excellent price points. The launch of the brand back in 2013 took the beauty world by storm and instantly won a cult-like following. I can’t say that I’m surprised. She creates some of the most refined and elegant makeup. But did you know she also formulates skincare? We don’t hear as much about her skincare products. But Charlotte is a trendsetter: constantly challenging the beauty industry’s status quo, constantly at the forefront of innovation. Just like her makeup, her skincare line is formulated with the everyday woman in mind and is based on the latest research in the field. Charlotte’s vision and aim is always the same: to empower women and instill fearlessness.
Charlotte Tilbury’s Skincare Line: What’s Worth It and What’s Not
I have gathered some of Charlotte Tilbury’s best-selling skincare products and figured I should show you how I use each one in my daily skincare routine. I will tell you what I like and don’t like about each one and more importantly, if they’re worth the money (in my humble opinion).
Here is a review of Charlotte Tilbury’s Skincare Line: What’s Worth It and What’s Not ….
When it comes to cleansers, I’m picky! My skin is sensitive, drier along the sides but with an oilier T-zone. A lot of cleansers tend to strip my skin, leaving it looking red and feeling tight. The Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Cleasning Ritual features a lush cleansing balm (to remove makeup/SPF) and a gentle charcoal-based cream (to tackle deeper-rooted environmental dirt and grime). This product includes all the basic necessities required to properly double cleanse (more on that here). Everything neatly packed in one beautiful set complete with a muslin cloth! There is a detailed review and photos in a previous post here, but simply put: I am a fan!
I have previously talked about this mask here. Although I’m not a fan of overnight masks (with the exception of the Fresh Deep Rose Hydration Mask reviewed here), the Charlotte Tilbury Overnight Bronze & Glow Mask is more of a tanning treatment. It’s the only face tanning product I have used. You apply a thin layer onto cleansed skin, leave it on overnight and awake to sun-kissed, glowy skin. I like that it hydrates the skin overnight and has a gradual effect. You can build the intensity of the tan over several nights. If you’re looking for a face tanning product with skincare benefits and are not a fan of an intense or dramatic tan, than you will love this product!
This mask claims to hydrate, lift, reduce wrinkles, smooth and brighten the skin in just 15 short minutes. Unfortunately, this didn’t work for my skin. I’ve tried it 3 different times and each time I struggled with the same issues. The mask does stay in place allowing you to multi-task should you so desire and it does fit comfortably. However, I’m not a fan of the dry consistency. My skin felt tight and because there was no immediate hydration or moisture, the mask felt a bit rough on my skin. There are lots of people out there who love it and swear by it. I know a few from Instagram and do trust their recommendations. So if you’re curious about dry sheet masks, give this one a go. There is one mask per package and the mask can be used up to 3 times.
I love a good clay mask, but it’s hard to find one that won’t leave my skin feeling dry and tight. One of the few clay masks that my sensitive, mature skin tolerates is the Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Skin Clay Mask. It uses Spanish Clay, essential oils and peptides to instantly moisturize and tighten pores, while drawing out impurities. Plus it only takes 10 short minutes to work its magic.
This is the latest innovation and addition to the Charlotte Tilbury Skincare line. For this serum, Charlotte collaborated with expert scientist to create a super-charged serum that will moisturize the skin for 24 hours and based on a clinical study, after 8-weeks of use, the appearance of pores and wrinkles will be reduced. Some key ingredients: Golden Vitamin C (which is more stable), Polyglutamic Acid (four times more hydrating than Hyaluronic Acid) and 5% Niacinamide (minimizes pores and improves texture and tone). The result is skin that looks firmer, is more elastic and youthful-looking. I just started using this a little over a week ago. So far, I can confirm that it does provide intense hydration and feels heavenly on the skin. I have also noticed that my skin appears brighter and more luminous.
My under-eye area is my problem spot. Partly because of genetics and mostly because of lack of sleep. When not managed properly, my under-eyes make me feel very self-conscious about my appearance. I feel like they can age me and make me look worn-out. A new discovery this year has been the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Eye Rescue Cream. It’s an anti-aging eye cream featuring ingredients such as Winter Daphne Stem Cell Extract, Reg Algae Marigel, Saccharide Isomerate and time-released Retinol. It works to revitalize, reinvigorate and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. I don’t have many eye cream favorites (just the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado reviewed here and the La Mer Eye Concetrate reviewed here), but the Magic Eye Rescue is now definitely joining them. A must-try in my opinion.
This is the product that started it all. Charlotte’s first ever skincare product! I’ve been thru several pots of this cream and always restock when Sephora has a sale. It’s an anti-aging moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid, Peptides, Vitamin C and E. It floods the skin with moisture, making it appear plumper and smoother. The ultra-light floral scent is naturally-derived from a blend of Magnolia, Rose and Camellia oils and I adore it! It reminds of the cream concoctions my grandma used to use when I was growing up. I do love it, but if scents in skincare trouble you, then you might want to get a sample of this first.
To be honest, I have a love/hate relationship with this night cream. Currently, I love it. It is an anti-aging cream designed specifically for nighttime. It is oil-based and incredibly rich. Some key ingredients: Winter Daphne Stem Cell Extract, Reg Algae Marigel, time-released Retinol, Olus Oil and Caster Seed Oil. All these ingredients come together to create a powerful nighttime elixir to rejuvenate, improve and protect the skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and boost elasticity.
My main gripe is the texture. It feels sticky on the skin and doesn’t absorb quickly. During my current pregnancy however, my skin became quite dry. Initially, nothing seemed to work. I developed small bumps all around my forehead and chin, a sign that my skin was in desperate need of hydration and moisture. So I gave the Magic Night Cream another try. It completely saved my skin during this pregnancy. I use it on most nights and make sure to apply it well in advance of going to bed so that it has ample time to absorb. If you have oily skin, I would definitely not recommend this night cream. But if you suffer from dry, dehydrated skin, then you might want to give this one a try.
Unlike the rest of our skin, the lips don’t contain oil glands which means they’re more susceptible to dryness, dehydration and external factors such as UV exposure. Proper lip care should not be reserved only for those times when your lips feel tight, dry or chapped. It should be a daily habit, much like the way you moisturize your face!
The Magic Lip Oil is one of the newest launches from Charlotte Tilbury. It’s an intensely hydrating lip conditioner by day and lip mask by night with an ultra-lightweight feel. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t have that sticky feeling when you apply it. It goes on smoothly and leaves the lips feeling soft and silky due to a blend of powerful ingredients like Hyaluronic Acic, Aloe Vera, First Light Snow Lotus, Ressurection Leaf and Alpine Rose Extract. This Magic Lip Oil has currently dethroned my beloved Laneige Lip Mask and I can see myself restocking next time Sephora has a sale.
