Before I became an incurable lipstick addict, I was first a lip gloss lover. It has been many years since then. I tried to remember the other day my first encounter with a lip gloss and waited in vain for something to come to mind. I just can’t seem to recall a time when I didn’t have a lip gloss around.
If liquid lipsticks were all the range this past Fall and Winter, I am happy to report that the makeup world has currently taken a different direction for Spring and Summer. Welcome the return of the lip glosses! I couldn’t be happier. Lip glosses are just so effortless, yet they can instantly make you look more polished and put together! You can wear them alone for a barely-there makeup look or layer them over your favorite lipstick for a sophisticated, lustrous look!
There are several different formulas that I really like at the moment and would like to share with you. I’m still loving my Buxom glosses. I have previously swatched their entire collection here. But today I’d like to focus on some hidden gems I’ve had in my collection, but have not yet had the opportunity to mention. Until now …
Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss is one of those cult products that has been around forever! They have recently reformulated the range and brought out 30 new shades! I have shade 716 Caramel, a warm nude with medium coverage. The formula is non-sticky, very comfortable on the lips, and very hydrating. It has a luminous finish and feels ultra-light. There’s no detectable smell, so these are perfect for those sensitive to scents.
Dior Addict Gloss has been one of my favorite gloss formulas for years. It’s not tacky or sticky, but feels incredibly balmy and moisturizing. Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, it leaves the lips feeling soft and looking plump. The formula is very similar to the Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss, but the applicator is very different. Unlike the Chanel sponge applicator, the Dior Addict Gloss comes with a little brush, which I must confess I’m not a fan of as it’s not very precise. The brush fans out during application and sometimes product gets outside the perimeter of the lips. But still, this has not deterred me from repurchasing these glosses. The formula is just that good! The shade shown here is No. 576 Bed of Roses, a medium pinky rose color with ultra-fine shimmers.
Givenchy Gloss Interdit Vinyl is the newest addition to my lip gloss stash. I instantly fell in love with the formula and design. It’s a gloss with medium coverage and lacquered finish, formulated with black rose oil. The sponge applicator is stamped with the letter “G”. The brand mentioned the G stands for Givenchy, for Glossy and for Glamour. I really like this little detail. The shade I picked out and received complimentary from the brand is No. 6, a universally-flattering mauvey shade with ultra-fine, multi-dimensional shimmers. It is lightly scented with the signature Givenchy fragrance detected in all of their lip products and which I personally find very pleasant.
Chantecaille Brilliant Gloss is another oldie, but always a goodie. I’ve been repurchasing the shade Lucky for as long as I can remember. It’s a shimmery peachy pink, a very Me color that I haven’t been able to find a dupe for. Enriched with green tea, this gloss is very hydrating and feels very light. It’s on the sheer side, so I usually layer it over a lipstick or tinted lip balm such as the Tom Ford Lip Color Shine in Bare previously reviewed here. Similar to the Dior Addict Gloss, it features a brush applicator.
Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Lip Gloss launched back in March and I have been using these glosses almost daily since the release. Hence why I had to feature them in this post. Shown here is Fireball, but I have reviewed in detail and swatched all 20 shades in a previous post here.
Laura Mercier Lip Glace is a gloss I’ve been repurchasing for years! My favorite shade is Bare Pink, a soft baby pink, very a la Kim K. The formula softens and smooths the lips, imparting ultra-shine. It comes with a sponge applicator that is very precise and picks up just the right amount of color. The coverage is light medium. Of all the scented glosses I have, the warm vanilla from the Laura Mercier Lip Glace is my most favorite!
Pixi by Petra is an affordable makeup line currently available at Target. I have previously reviewed their entire line of Multi-Purpose Balms here. The more I try from the brand, the more I fall in love with their minimalist, fuss-free line. The quality is just outstanding. I have recently received a PR package that contained the Pixi Lip Icing in Cake from a collaboration with beauty and lifestyle guru Chloe Morello. As soon as I tried it, I knew I had to feature it as a favorite. The formula is so comfortable on the lips. It feels more like a balm than a gloss and smells like cake. The base color is clear but has a gorgeous array of multi-dimensional shimmers. It looks like foil when you see it in the packaging. It can be worn alone, but since the coverage is sheer, I typically layer it over a lipstick.

I wish I can develop a love for lip glosses since I have so many lying around. But I am all about matte lips lol.

Thank you for stopping by. I can definitely understand. I’ve had a love hate relationship with glosses and am glad to see that the formulas have improved drastically over the years. For the time being, my love affair with the lip glosses is back on. I shall continue the fight hair vs. lip gloss 🙂 🙂 ~ Cat L.

Hello and thanks for taking the time to show us your favorite lip gloss formulas. I am a lip gloss fan and I generally wear it on top of lipstick. The Pixi Beauty x Chloe Morello lip icing has earned its place in my handbag and I can’t get enough of it. The lip icing feels weightless and non sticky while providing moisture to my lips.

All through high school and some of my college years I was a lip gloss girl all the way, so I definitely understand the love for them. Now a days I mix it up between lip gloss and lip stick. Right now I’m all about the Buxom! I’m so in love with the way it feels on my lips and the refreshing sensation it gives. The lip glosses you mentioned in your post all sounds delicious in there own way, I would love to try the Givenchy No. 6, I so love the color and it will also compliment my complexion very well. Thanks for sharing your favs Cat!
