If you tour my house these days, chances are you will spot a candle burning in the background somewhere in one of the rooms. I am a notorious candle-burner all year round, but there’s something extra delightful about lighting a candle this time of the year, when the air outside is crisp and the weather is gloomy.
My all-time favorites have to be the Jo Malone candles. They are by far the best candles I’ve ever smelt! I love everything about these luxury candles: the heavenly scents that infuse the room, the burn time, the packaging. But I hate the prices. I typically save up and splurge on these candles whenever the big department stores run their Friends and Family Sale or offer a discount depending on the value of your order (every now and then, some department stores offer for instance $25 off $100 purchase, etc). I also try to justify the purchase in my mind by thinking about ways to repurpose and give new life to the beautiful glass jars once the candles burn out. And thanks in part to Pintrest and in part to Instagram, I now have plenty of uses. Over the years, the jars have been a happy home to multiple beauty products: cotton pads, Qtips, makeup brushes, lip glosses and pencils, hair elastics, just to name a few. I’ve also used them to store spare change, rubber bands in the office, and teabags in the kitchen.
Once the candle is fully burnt and there’s only a little bit of wax left, run a little bit of hot water into the jar and wait a few seconds until the wax is melted (I’ve noticed that Bath&Body Works and Yankee candles take a little longer to remove the wax, but the Jo Malone go pretty quickly). Take the wick out (dispose of it in the garbage) and scrape any excess wax with a butter knife. Add a tiny amount of soap, mix it in, wash the jar and dry it out with a paper towel. And voila: you now have an elegant looking jar that adds a little luxe edge to any interior.
Do you have any products that you repurpose for other uses?

Lovely ideas Cat, You can also pop the glass in the freezer for a few hours, that’s makes it literally drop out by it self. For harder to remove candles. ?

I’ve heard about the freezer method but have always been afraid that the jars might break! I definitely need to try it out! Thank so much for the suggestion! ~ Cat

I agree! Scents have that power to transport us to a different atmosphere or take us back in time to wonderful memories! My favorite Jo Malone was Wild Fig & Cassis, as I love everything Fig, but this scent is being discontinued. So my next favorite is Wood Sage & Sea Salt. It’s a very outdoorsy, fresh aroma, perfect for every day! ~ Cat
