I genuinely get so excited whenever I get a chance to talk lipsticks! I know, I know, beauty addict issues but lipsticks to me are very sentimental. They take me back to my younger days, those care-free times when the only makeup I was allowed to wear were lip smackers and my only worry in life was what to wear to school the next day. I would grab my backpack and my lip smacker (different flavor depending on my mood, strawberry if I were particularly well disposed that day, peppermint if I needed a pick me up) and I would head out into the world. No worries, no fears, nothing holding me back. Those were the times I felt invincible!
Although those days are long behind me, some things have never changed. Don’t laugh, but I still feel invincible whenever I put lipstick on, which inevitably leads to and will help you understand my next point. I never leave my house without putting lipstick on. Lipstick is my one and only deserted island type product and I hoard just about every color under the sun. So you can imagine my sheer joy and excitement when I heard about some new lipsticks on the block!
The legendary European beauty brand ZOEVA, have a cult-like following for a good reason and this November they are giving us some serious lipstick envy! They are launching not one, but two incredibly alluring collections of liquid lipsticks that promise an innovative, long-lasting formula and richly saturated, sensual colors. The collections differentiate based on finish: an ultra-matte velvety formula called Pure Velours Lips and an outstandingly glossy formula called Pure Lacquer Lips.
The lipsticks come in an understated yet chic packaging that fits even in the tiniest of purses and that provides the best excuse to carry more than just one lip option. They have a paddle brush applicator (which differs slightly in shape depending on the formula) that pulls just the right amount of product without having to re-dip. The formula itself is so pigmented that one swipe is usually enough for full coverage. With the formula as pigmented as these and the unique brush applicators being so precise, struggling with a lip liner becomes widely unnecessary. The lipstick formulation is vegan, enriched with vitamin E and is 100% free of parabens, mineral oils, perfume, and phthalates. Made in Italy. There are eight shades in each collection, a real wearable mixture of colors, and I have swatches of every single one!

Meet the Mattes
The ZOEVA Pure Velours Lips is a new generation of liquid lipsticks that boasts of a unique texture for ultra-matte lips. These are so much more than just regular matte liquid lipsticks and quite different than most formulas I’ve tried (and I’ve tried my fair share)! The Zoeva matte liquid lipsticks are incredibly pigmented, creamy, velvety, and super moisturizing on the lips. They feel as if they’ve been tattooed onto your lips and your lips always feel soft and hydrated. I simply cannot tell you how comfortable and easy on the lips these are. They are exactly how every matte lipstick out there hopes and ought to be!
The Velours Lips apply to a slightly wet and luminous finish that gradually dries down to a velvety finish within seconds and stays intact for most of the day. In my experience, after about 7-8 hours of wear, a cup of tea, countless sips of water, a copious meal at the restaurant (including desert) and a late afternoon snack, all I could notice was a slight fade along the inner part of my lips, creating a soft, almost ombre effect, that still looked very flattering. The pointy brush applicator has the ability to be so precise, thus making it very effortless to outline the contour of the lips, navigate around the cupid’s bow and fill the lips in.

- Faint of Heart – medium mauvey nude pulls a touch brown on me
- All is Calm – medium rosewood
- The Outsider – dark rich plum
- Clear Message – light cool-toned nude
- Natural Aesthetic – medium rosey nude
- Matte Chat – medium dusty berry
- Blue Blood – bright cool-toned berry red pulls scarlet red on me
Blue Blood is one of the shades that surprised me. It turned out a lot brighter and more scarlet red than I had anticipated from the swatch, but still very wearable for me.
Faint of Heart is one of those effortless shades that goes with every outfit, trend or season and a shade I anticipate hoarding for a long time!
Meet the Lacquers
The Zoeva Pure Lacquer Lips collection combines outstandingly smooth texture with incredible, long-lasting color for a vinyl-like glossy finish, very elegant and sophisticated. I find the lacquered look extremely appealing: as the color pigments catch the light, the lips appear fuller and more sensual. It is in my opinion, the best (and easiest way) to discretely plump up the lips.
The rich formula hugs the curves of the lips, doesn’t separate, and feels so luxurious. The color is richly saturated and opaque in one swipe. The texture isn’t something you would expect to last on for hours, as it’s smooth and creamy, but the color locks onto the lips and after about 5-6 hours I found myself completely forgetting I was still wearing lipstick. The brush applicator is designed specifically to conform to the shape of the lips and to help the color get evenly distributed without a slip in sight. It picks up just the right amount of product and one swipe is enough to get a vibrant color, no need for building layers and re-dipping.

- Strong Career – medium warm-toned brown nude
- Sensual Curve – deep brown rosewood
- Crushed Bloom – medium dusty rose
- Haute Pursuit – medium cool-toned berry
- Criss Crossed – dark rich plum
- Senso – bright vermillion red
- Noble Heart – dark cool-toned berry red
Haute Pursuit is such a stunning berry shade, very feminine and sophisticated. It is a shade that instantly perks me up, an instant feel-good, mood-enhancer!
Crushed Bloom is such an elegant, universally flattering, my lips but better kind of shade. One of my favorites from the collection, a no fuss, wear every day kind of color.
Final Thoughts
The ZOEVA Pure Velours Lips and Zoeva Pure Lacquer Lips are some of THE most comfortable and long-lasting lipsticks I own. I have really enjoyed wearing both collections and am amazed at how pigmented, light-weight and moisturizing the formula is. I’m simply addicted to the beautiful selection of shades and find all the colors incredibly flattering for most complexions. If you’re after a lip product that looks just as good hours later as when you first applied it, look no further. This is it…the ZOEVA Pure Velours and Pure Lacquer Lips, a lipstick lover’s absolute dream.

I’ve always avoided matte lipsticks precisely because most of them are very drying, but it sounds like the Zoeva ones are an exception. The matte ones are just THE most comfortable I’ve ever tried and don’t settle in the fine lines of my lips to accentuate them, given that the formula is not a dry one. The lacquered lipsticks are formulated in such a way that the color locks onto the lips and they don’t transfer when you eat or drink as much as regular creamy lipstick formulas. Both collections are lovely and well done to you Cat for stunning photos. All colours you presented on your lips look beautiful, but that Blood Red is just stunning on you. I have a bit of collection of a nude lipsticks, but it’s a time now to order some reds and deeper tones and get into festive mood.
