I’ve never been one to match my bag with my shoes (mostly because my shoes have always outnumbered my bags), but I do like to play matchy matchy when the opportunity presents itself. And luckily my beauty world presents a great number of such opportunities. My favorite has got to be matching lips and tips! You pick a lip color that matches or goes beautifully with the color on your nails. It’s the kind of subtle pairing that escapes most people (well okay, not if you’re going for neons and you choose bright yellow as your color of choice!), but a pairing that provides for instant sophistication.
As embarrassing as it is to admit, I have an obscenely large collection of lipsticks, one that the Instagram world has become used to seeing. I just can’t seem to help it: the vast array of beautiful colors, the no-fuss application, the elegant packaging. It doesn’t take long to get overly excited and decide that I need that lipstick in my life.
I’ve been smitten with Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine in Boy ever since I got my paws on it. The Coco Shines are my favorite of Chanel’s lip offerings for being the perfect combination of balm and gloss with a wash of color. The color is a sophisticated, glossy, nude-pink that will flatter just about any complexion. It has subtle, iridescent golden shimmer running through it that makes the lips appear plump and juicy. The formula has a water-light texture and a soft vanilla scent. It feels very moisturizing and hydrating on the lips. Unlike a gloss, it does not feel sticky or overly shiny. The sheer finish does tend to wear more easily, especially after eating, however, it’s so easy to reapply this lipstick, that a mirror is not even needed. The staying power is about 2 hours on me, which is not terrible considering that this product is more of a tinted lip balm and not really a lipstick.
The perfect companion to Boy, in my opinion, has got to be Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Polish in Daisy. For me, Marc Jacobs nail polishes were love at first lacquer! I own several colors and have raved about Lola in a previous post (read here). Daisy, the perfect pair to Boy, is a very feminine, pearly, ivory pink that applies smoothly and looks very elegant and sophisticated (which sometimes can be challenging with pearly colors). It doesn’t look too frosty or metallic. It can last on my nails for up to 6 or 7 days, huge plus for me being that I’m constantly chasing and cleaning after my 18 month-old son and don’t have much time to paint my nails. You can get away with 2 coats, but I typically opt to apply 3 coats just to build up the color and make it look like the color in the bottle. The bottle is slick, with round edges and will look chic on any vanity. I will caution you to use care when opening the bottle, as it can slip right through your fingers (the only downside of this elegant bottle design).
I’ve really gotten used to this matching lips and tips trend, with Daisy and Boy being my favorite combination. Perfect on their own with no additional makeup for every day wear or paired up with a dramatic smokey eye for a night out.
