I’ve been following iconic designer Marc Jacobs’s beauty line since it originally launched a few years ago. I have gazed in admiration and gasped from a far, meanwhile patiently waiting for the wow factor that would sweep me madly off my feet. Don’t get me wrong, his glamorous products are quite alluring, not to mention the packaging is some of the chicest I’ve ever seen. But with so many hard-to-resist options at the tips of our fingers, it’s become harder to commit. Of course, the competition is good for us consumers. Now brands really have pull out all the stops to impress. And I think Marc Jacobs has finally found the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the beauty rainbow. His brand new Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palettes are simply sublime, both in terms of quality and price point.
The Marc Jacobs Eye-Conic Collection represents the designer’s second attempt to launch a line of eyeshadow palettes. The collection includes 6 eyeshadow palettes, each containing 7 brand new, eye-popping shades in 4 fashion finishes (velvet, satin, silk and lamé). I have tried several of his predecessor palettes over the years, and while I did appreciate some of the previous shades, I was disappointed by the inconsistency in pigmentation and lack of unicity when it came to the overall color range within each palette. Simply put, I wasn’t impressed! But it’s been incredibly refreshing to see that Marc Jacobs Beauty has taken feedback from their fans, discontinued their previous generation of eye palettes (some of which you might now find at your local TJ Maxx), and released a new formula of eyeshadows that is so spectacular that I am now seriously impressed!
I have picked out two of these Eye-Conic palettes to show you today, the two that immediately stole my heart: Scandalust and Glambition. I have however swatched all of the 6 palettes during a Sephora event and I am genuinely pleased to report that all of the shades swatched beautifully. The formula is finely milled, soft and feels like silk on the skin. The pigmentation is top-notch and the shades blend with practically no effort at all. All 6 palettes seem worthy of their name as each palette is Eye-Conic in its own way!
Marc Jacobs Eye-Conic Multi-finish Eye Palette in Scandalust
Scandalust is the most surprising palette of the entire Marc Jacobs Eye-Conic collection. It features an array of neutrals, with a versatile mix of warm and cool tones, and a show-stopping shade of magenta cranberry! It is this interesting shade of berry that immediately captivated me and that makes this palette unforgettable! It’s quite an interesting hue, slightly cool-toned and surprisingly flattering! I typically stay away from any shadows within the crimson family as those colors tend to make me look tired and unwell, but this particular shade features some purple-y burgundy undertones that lend sophistication and add dimension to the eye look.
The swatches, from bottom up, and corresponding to the placement of the shades in the palette from left to right are:
- Hot Pants – satin finish pearlescent champagne shade, works great to highlight the inner corner and brow bone
- At The Office – matte dusty mauvey rose color, very close to my skin tone. I use this as an all-over-the-lid color or to define the crease
- Cause A Fuss – rose gold with ultra fine silver shimmers running thru it
- That’s Why – matte warm-toned hazelnut shade, perfect for the crease
- They Call Her – satin finish copper color
- Little Miss – matte finish deep aubergine brown. I use this to deepen the decrease, accentuate the outer corner as well as to line the eyes
- Scandalous – velvet finish magenta cranberry
I think Scandalust is a very wearable palette! You can use the shades individually or mix and match as you please. All the shades pair well together and transition beautifully from day to evening looks, regardless of season and/or occasion.
Marc Jacobs Eye-Conic Multi-finish Eye Palette in Glambition
Glambition is a classic collection of refined neutral shades, cleverly selected to universally flatter every skin tone and complexion. There are no surprising shadows, but it is within this inviting familiarity where the beauty of Glambition lies! The elegant array of colors with their beautiful fashion finishes ensure these shades are perfect for the office, as well as for a glamourous night out! You can keep the eye look minimal on those days when you can’t be bothered or dial up the fun by creating an elegant smokey eye.
The swatches, from top to bottom, and corresponding to the placement of the shades in the palette from left to right are:
- She Was – satin finish pearlescent color
- Infamous – soft matte pinky beige, very close to my skin tone. I use this as an all-over-the-lid color
- Known For – satin finish medium copper
- Seeking – matte, neutral-toned medium taupe, perfect crease color
- The Most – medium mauve color with ultra fine silver shimmers
- Over The Top – velvet finish deep brown. I use this to deepen the outer corner and to line my eyes
- Glamour – soft matte carbon color with metallic silver shimmers sparsely running thru it
Both Scandalust and Glambition are here to tell their own story. As Marc Jacobs suggests, just read the shade names on the packaging from left to right (or here in my post from top to bottom) and you’ll find out what each palette is all about. I will conclude by telling you that each of these two palettes is simply striking! I was very much impressed by the shade range featured within each palette, the superb pigmentation of each color and the versatility of finishes!
I highly recommend checking out these Eye-Conic palettes from Marc Jacobs to anyone looking to get out of a makeup rut or simply searching for a great selection of colors at a reasonable price point!

Hello, dear Catalina. I loved reading your article. Like you write, the brand did a great job on these palettes. The pigmentation is happening when it comes to each and every shade. The looks you created are stunning. I find that the Scandalust colors are slightly better on you than the Glambition, but that is just my preference. A good find! I am thinking of buying the large LE palette that MJ launched for 2017. Do you think the quality will be consistent in such a large palette?
Have a lovely day!

These palettes look wonderful! I adore the looks you created. I think Glambition would suit me better, but I have heart eyes seeing your swatches of Scandalust too. I have one of his old palettes – a neutral one, I believe, that had a few nice shades, but overall wasn’t my favorite. I’m happy to hear there’s a marked improvement! Great review!
