A quick surveillance of the contents of my makeup shelves will reveal a seemingly endless number of lipstick options. For some (my husband), this is a nightmare or a horder’s nest (in my defense, most of them are neatly stored in organizers). For others (me) this is heaven and the way I like it. Let’s face it: I’m not known for my talents as a makeup artist. But lipstick I’ve always felt is one of those makeup choices that anybody can make and no one can get wrong. You don’t need to be a talented makeup artist to apply a little lipstick and instantly look more put together. The only trick with lipstick is just making sure your lips are always hydrated and moisturized prior to lipstick application. This is an important part of the process that simply cannot be over looked, even more so with the matte lipstick trend that is currently going around (all MAC matte lipsticks, I’m looking at you!).
But having said all that, it is never a good idea to neglect the lips, no matter the season, the weather or the trend. Incorporating a lip treatment into your daytime and nighttime skincare routines should be a mandatory step. Now you’re probably also familiar with my love affair with the Dior Crème de Rose, a love affair that’s been going on for ages (read here and here). I’ve always felt nothing seemed to come close to it. Well, until now. Meet Maya Chia Waterless Wonder Balm, a multi-tasking product, an absolute savior for dry, cracked lips and so much more!
The Brand
Maya Chia is a new skincare brand from South Carolina. Their products are natural, paraben-free, phthalate-free, artificial color-free and cruelty-free, all important factors in my skincare buying book. What sets them apart from other natural brands is the use of chia oil as an active ingredient in their skincare line and the way they extract the oil. Chia Oil far exceeds the omegas and fatty acids of other leading oils and is clinically proven to significantly increase skin hydration and skin’s ability to protect itself against external factors. It is lightweight, rapidly absorbed and suitable for all skin types. Maya Chia uses a patented process to extract the oil called supercritical extraction. The gentle oxygen-free, solvent-free process results in oil with a total absence of chemical residues and impurities. For us the consumers, that means the quality of the oil is the best, the purest, most stable, effective, and potent chia oil on the market.
The Balm
When I opened the package for the first time, I realized that the Maya Chia Waterless Wonder Balm had the chance of being one of those love at first whiff type products! The scent is heavenly: it’s the delicate, fresh, citrusy aroma of orange blossoms! You’re immediately transported to a place of tranquil serenity, somewhere in the middle of a beautiful orange grove, on a beautiful summer afternoon, sweet blooms, soft winds and a bright sun up above. The scent is given by the essential oils from fresh orange blossoms infused into the product. It’s very reminiscing of Jo Malone Orange Blossom, a popular fragrance in my household growing up and a fragrance that has always held the kind of power that can take me back to that time. As if the fragrance was not enough, the balm itself is packed with a wonderful list of natural ingredients: Shea Butter, Chia Oil, Beeswax, Apricot Kernel Oil, Sunflower Oil, Vitamin E and an Essential Oil blend. It has a creamy, almost whipped consistency, that feels as though it’s working to hydrate deep into the dry areas of the body as opposed to just coating and sitting on top of the skin. It is a wonder balm, great for healing any dehydrated areas of the body. I use it on my lips, hands, cuticles, elbows, knees and feet, anywhere really, where moisture and hydration is needed. It is also the perfect veil for the lips when worn alone as it lasts a long time, as well as the perfect base under any lipstick or lipgloss, especially the drying ones like MAC.
The Packaging
The Maya Chia Waterless Wonder Balm is packed in a beautiful and understated pot, yet a packaging that looks elegant on any vanity. One can argue that the pot might not be as hygienic as a tube, but I always tend to over-wash my hands (welcome to motherhood) and prefer the fingertip application. While I do believe that packaging bears no relevance to the benefits of the product it houses, it is always a nice touch.
Where to Purchase
The Maya Chia skincare line is available directly from Maya Chia and other online retailers, such as Shen Beauty. I purchased my Waterless Wonder Balm online from Maya Chia. I placed my order on a Saturday night and my order was shipped to me that Monday. I received an email confirmation when I placed the order, as well as when the order shipped. Easy, fast, no fuss – exactly how online ordering should be.
Final Thoughts
I’m really impressed with and enjoy the feeling of the Maya Chia Waterless Wonder Balm on my skin. The natural ingredients and non-toxic properties have given me the peace of mind when kissing and playing with my toddler son, knowing that the balm does not include anything that could potentially be harmful to my little one. I’ve even used this balm on my son’s dry lips this past winter knowing that it’s safe and effective. In my opinion, the balm is a must-have in anyone’s beauty/skincare cabinet. I am a skeptic when it comes to skincare (if you’ve seen my Instagram, you know that’s not an issue when it comes to makeup, as I’m always up to trying just about anything). Often times I feel that brands tend to promote products that play on our insecurities, promise all kinds of miracles and are full of empty promises. I know how it is to get your hopes up on a skincare product, only to be left disappointed and with your bank account hating you. But this multi-tasking balm really is an absolute savior for any dehydrated skin (not just dry skin) and in my opinion a must-try product!
I do wish that the brand Maya Chia would make the balm available in a smaller container as well, something that would give a lot more people the opportunity to try out this amazing product and make the balm perfect for traveling and carrying around in a small bag.
Quick Note: This is not a sponsored post, nor am I affiliated with the brand in any way. I simply just love the product!

What a lovely and thorough review Cat !! I loved the pictures too , you look gorgeous ! I need to learn the art of makeup from you, I have zero talent in that department 😉
That balm looks great , I have an oily skin so I don’t dive much in the balm department but it sounds soo good , I’ll have to try .

This sounds right up my alley Cat, is it’s similar to Pommadedivine where can I get it other than their website, who knows they might ship internationally. I love that the balm has very few ingredients compared to some on the market, oh I have a list as long as my arm of products to try ☺️, decisions decisions. I can’t get Dior balm de rose in the UK anymore have to wait until I go away to stock up ?. Great article my friend one of my favourites to read a good review on any type of balms.

Esnath, I think you would really enjoy this balm. It is available thru Shen Beauty.com and they ship internationally as well. As much as I love my Dior Crème de Roses, sadly, it’s not that natural in formulation (although nothing beats the scent of the roses). Thank you again for reading my post and for commenting. I am a huge fan of your blog http://www.prettypeachblossom.com ~ Cat L.

Absolutely love all things Maya chia!! I use the super couple oil day and night, the balm day and night, and the body oil in the morning! Sooo good!! Great article!
Cat says
Thank you for reading my post and for commenting. I also use the Super Couple oil as part of my skincare routine, but I wasn’t familiar with their body oil. From what you’re mentioning, it does sound like something I would enjoy. Thank you for sharing that with me, I will look into it! ~ Cat L.

You’re so welcome! Also, I know you mentioned application method for the balm.. I bought mini popsicle sticks in the crafting department for super cheap and I use a new one each time to get product out so it’s never touched by my hands! It’s been working perfectly!! 😀
Cat says
Courtney, that’s such a great idea! Thank you for sharing! Also, I’ve really been enjoying your blog http://www.beautywithcourtney.com Your reviews are so honest, concise and to the point. Great job! ~ Cat L.

Cat I also love! love ! love !! lip stick and feel that my look is not complete with out it. At this time I’m using the Sugar nourishing lip balm, but I find that it doesn’t keep my lips mosturized throughout the day when I’m wearing my matte lip sticks . I often have to add Vaseline then the Sugar lip balm in order to maintain a mosturized lip for most of the day but often end up reapplying. I’ve been looking for a new lip balm that will help with this issue , you’ve convinced me to try this one . I’m ordering today ! I’ll keep you posted ! Thanks Cat
Cat says
Thank you for commenting! I am a fan of the Sugar lip treatment, but I find the Maya Chia Balm more versatile in terms of its use. It works wonders on dry skin, lips, hands, feet, cuticles, elbows and knees. It’s sort of a one-stop shop type product. If you end up picking it up, do let me know how you like it and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. ~ Cat L.

I’m going to have to check this out! I love that it’s versatile and cruelty free is important to me. Great review!
Cat says
Thank you, Amber! It is a wonderful product and I like the way it’s formulated: cruelty free, without harsh chemicals and with very few ingredients with names I can pronounce! If you do get a chance to try it, and I hope the company also makes it available in a smaller packaging as well, do let me know your thoughts! ~ Cat L.
