Spring is in the air!
I’m pretty sure I started previous blog posts with this phrase before. It’s not that I like to be unoriginal with my writing. That’s certainly not the aim here. It’s more about the feelings and emotions this phrase evokes. There’s just something so electrifying, so hopeful about this time of the year. Nature renews itself and starts fresh. And so should we.
When it comes to beauty, Spring is the season for dewey skin, vivacious scents and effortless hair that moves gracefully in the warm winds of change. So I felt inspired to curate my absolute Top 5 Spring Beauty Essentials. These are tried-and-true products that will see you thru the end of the season and beyond. Let’s begin …
1). Brightening Base
When I think of a brightening base, I mean to say fresh, dewey skin that radiates a healthy, luminous lit-from-within glow. When you eat right and sleep the recommended amount, sure. That’s easy. But the way our lives are shaped these days, pulled into multiple directions and juggling demanding situations, that can be challenging. We end up relying on tried-and-true skincare and strategically placed makeup. Luckily, there are plenty of options. One way to revive and renew the complexion is by incorporating a hydrating, radiance-boosting primer into your foundation routine.
Clarins Skincare has just launched an innovative range of primers that combine the benefits of makeup and skincare. The new Clarins SOS Primers target specific skincare concerns such as radiance, fatigue, dark spots, redness, etc. The formula offers targeted color correction to visibly blur, brighten and revive the complexion. Each of the 6 primers available in the range is infused with organic sea lily extract to offer the skin 24-hour moisture and an anti-pollution complex to defend the skin against environmental aggressors. These primers prepare the skin for further makeup application and enhance the overall wear.
I have the Clarins SOS Primer in Rose, meant to minimize the signs of fatigue. It has such a delicate and beautiful scent, I can’t help but ease up every time I use it! The texture is incredibly silky and melts into the skin, lifting my complexion from a dull and sallow state.
2). Charming Cheeks
My own personal beauty style is very natural. A pop of color on the cheeks and a subtle hightlight strategically placed are truly the only necessities.
You might be a bit shocked to see the Urban Decay Disco Queen Holographic Highlighters included in this post. But as soon as I got a chance to test out these new releases from Urban Decay, I just knew I had to include them in my Spring roundup. Don’t let the name fool you. These highlighters are holographic, multi-dimensional and universally-flattering. They create an iridescent sheen that catches the light at every turn. Just as a disco ball would. Hence the name. The collection includes a Holographic Disco Stick and a Holographic Hightlight Powder. You can use a little for a subtly ethereal sheen or layer for a more intense, high-watt highlight. The choice is entirely yours.
The Holographic Disco Stick is a sheer, pearlescent shade laced with ultra-fine pink and blue shimmers that seem to change color before your eyes. The cream-to-powder formula is lightweight and glides on effortlessly without disrupting previously applied makeup. Because the base is sheer, this formula creates a translucent shimmer that allows your skin to show through.
Urban Decay is well-renowned for their finely-milled powder formulas. The Holographic Hightlight Powder is no exception. This innovative powder comes in a translucent, iridescent lavender shade infused with pearl pigments. The formula is not pressed, which means the powder feels incredibly light and airy on the skin. The finish is a beautiful, luminous sheen.
3). Nude Lips and Tips
As much as I love a bold lip and dark manicure in the wintertime, Spring calls for delicate hues. Loyal readers might recall I’m no stranger to the matching lips and tips trend. I previously wrote about it here. You pick a lip color that matches or goes beautifully with your nails. It’s the kind of subtle pairing that escapes most people, but a pairing that provides for instant sophistication.
My favorite Spring combination is Essie Nailpolish in Sand Tropez and YSL Beauty Le Nu Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick. Le Nu is a YSL classic lipstick shade, a universally-flattering nude. Every year, they re-release it in limited edition packaging. My favorite is the star emboss released last year. Essie Sand Tropez is a beautiful warm sandy-beige color that works with any outfit. Some might find this interesting, it’s Kim Kardashian’s favorite nude polish.
4). Effortless Hair
Spring is the season when our main mane emerges from under cashmere hats and cable knit beanies, getting its first taste of what’s about to come in the next months. When I think of spring hair, I envision voluminous, bouncy curls that move effortlessly with the warm winds.
A recent discovery has been the Shu Uemura Texture Wave Dry Finishing Spray, a styling product that works for every hair type. This is a texturizing spray that provides instant volume and long-lasting flexible hold. It builds volume and movement, while enhancing definition and extending that perfect blow dry. By absorbing excess oil the roots (without any powdery residue), it’s the perfect rejuvenator for second- and third-day hair. Normally, a styling hair product that adds volume and texture, comes hand in hand with a texture that is sticky and stiff. The Shu Uemura Texturizing Spray is quite the opposite. It’s honestly the best texture, without the crunch. It allows the hair to maintain its natural movement.
5). Vivacious Scents
We change the scents of our homes with the passage of seasons and it’s important that we refresh our personal scents as well.
The very moment I caught a whiff of the refreshing scents of Maison Kurkdjian Aqua Celestia a little over a year ago, I knew this fragrance would become my Spring scent for years to come. I dedicated an entire post to this uplifting perfume here. The unique combination of cool mint, lime, sweet mimosa blossoms and blackcurrant buds lend sophistication and freshness to a simple, yet very powerful blend. The fragrance opens up fresh and dynamic, gradually metamorphosing into a soft and sweet aroma that lingers for most of the day. You simply have to track this down at Neiman Marcus and give it a whiff.
