Life is stressful we all know that. We get worked up over day to day activities and circumstances that pop up unexpectedly, which is why it is so important to transform every day routines into a meaningful, tranquil experience. Most of us don’t have the time or resources to go to a fancy spa where flavored water is served and the robes are oh, so plush! So I try to create my own escape within the four walls of my home. I try to think of my morning and evening skincare routines as an opportunity to show my skin some much needed TLC before heading out to brave the world or drifting away into the realm of dreams (okay, I don’t really sleep much to dream on most nights, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want to, sweet dreams only though). If you’ve been with me for a while, you’re probably already familiar with my Cleansing (read here), Daytime (read here) and Nighttime (read here) skincare routines. For the most part, I keep consistent with the use of the same tried-and-true products, because that’s the thing I’ve learned about skincare over the years: you have to use the same products over a period of time in order to see results and judge for yourself whether a product works or it doesn’t work as advertised. Something I only recently started to consistently incorporate in my beauty regimen is the use of a wonderful and magical beauty tool: a Jade facial roller (sounds a little scary but it’s not, I promise) and let me tell you all about it.
It’s All About That Jade
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jade is known for its health benefits which help relax the nervous system and work to eliminate toxins from the skin. It is believed that jade carries a healing energy that can help balance your own inner energies and bring about a sense of harmony and balance.
Jade facial rollers (here) have been used in Eastern cultures since ancient times, as the beauty device of choice for Chinese royalty in their never ending quest for that fountain of youth, a quest many of us living in today’s modern times can relate to. It is an anti-aging, natural rejuvenating method that invigorates and awakens the skin, improves blood flow to the face and re-energizes the skin, improving its health and overall appearance. It minimizes fine lines and pores, and the Jade’s cooling effect relieves stress, reduces facial puffiness and inflammation, restores and firms the skin’s tone.
How To Use
At first glance, the Jade roller might look a little intimidating, but I assure you it is extremely easy to use. You start on one side of the face at the jaw line and gently move the roller in an upward direction toward the ear. Next, place it on the forehead and gently roll it toward the ear. Move it over the lips and chin towards the neck. Switch to the other side of the face. I also like to use it on my neck in an upward motion towards the chin.
My Personal Experience
I’m always up for trying products to improve my skin. I first became familiar with the use of a Jade facial roller many years ago, during a stone facial at a fancy spa. I was explained the benefits and properties of using this beauty tool, and I was immediately hooked. I quickly added it to my list as something I should get for myself and incorporate into my skincare routine on a consistent basis. It wasn’t until recently however that someone recommended this particular Jade roller made from 100% Jade stone, see here. The price was so attractive that I didn’t hesitate. I’ve now used it consistently for a few weeks and I simply cannot get enough of it. It’s such a great skincare treat for the face or as I also like to call it, it’s my workout for the face! I use it a few times a week to apply my serums and oils in the morning and evening time. I love the feeling of the natural jade stone gliding softly over my face. There’s a coolness sensation first, but as you gently move the roller, the skin starts to warm up as blood vessels to the face are set in motion to support cellular activity which in turn allows the beauty serums to better penetrate the skin’s surface. Since I’ve used it regularly, I’ve noticed my skin is plumper and appears more firm as well. It is such a relaxing and soothing experience, I highly recommend it. Buy it, try it, and you will not be disappointed!

Such a great post! I’ve always been fascinated by eastern beauty treatments! How long or how many minutes do you usually use the roller on the face?
Cat says
Thank you! I typically try to use it for about 30 seconds on each side, until I feel my skin begin to warm up, a sign that the blood vessels are set in motion. ~ Cat L.

I will definitely order the Jade Roller and give it a shot since it’s so inexpensive.

Keep in mind that not all Jade rollers are created equal. I personally feel this particular one is great to get started and master the art of the facial massage. The gently pressure created by the roller helps blood to move thru congested areas and boosts circulation, which is what gives you that glowy look. If you ever get a chance, go for a stone facial. It’s such an amazingly relaxing experience. Do let me know your thoughts on the roller if you get a chance to try it. ~ Cat L.

So interesting! And you are totally right: you must give products some time before actually seeing some results. That’s why I would not feel comfortable reviewing a product after only little time!

Thank you for reading! I definitely recommend trying the jade roller if you haven’t already! Now I’m off to read your blog http://www.theskincabinet.com ~ Cat L.

Hi, I’m your very new reader and I really enjoy your blog! I’ve just ordered the same roller for myself after your article and I wanted to clarify why you don’t use it every day not for the whole massage but just for better penetration of your serums/oils. You think it’s too much for your skin? And do you use the other side of the roller, the smaller one? Thank you!
Cat says
Hi Svetlana, thank you for reading my post and for your comment. I use my Jade roller on most days, typically during my nighttime skincare routine to massage either the serums or the oils into my skin for better absorption. On some days, I use it both in the morning and in the evening. On other days, I might not use it at all if I’m in a rush. I opt to use the Jade roller in the morning if I happen to wake up with big bags under my eyes, as it works wonders at depuffing. I personally believe that as long as you’re using gentle pressure, the same pressure you would use when using your hands alone, the Jade roller works better at helping massage the products into the skin. I don’t use the small side of the roller, that is just to better position the roller into the palm of your hand, as seen in the last photo. Hope this answers your questions. Hope you enjoy the roller as much as I have. ~ Cat L.

Hi Cat! I’m so happy I found your blog. I was on the internet researching these stone facial rollers and was directed to you. Sharing your own personal thoughts from your experience with this tool has answered my questions about it. However, I would like to know what serums and oils you would recommend. I am 54 years young and recently started using the anti-aging and wrinkle skincare products by IT Cosmetics. I am with you on how important it is to give products time before reviewing them. I always give myself a 3 month trial period with a new product before I decide if it’s doing what it is supposed to do.
Thanks for sharing…definitely going to follow your blogs.

Thank you for stopping by, Gina. So happy you enjoyed the post and found it helpful. I always recommend a Vitamin C serum for the morning and a retinol at night. And when I take a break from Vitamin C and Retinol, I like to use a hydrating serum which truly feels like a drink of water for the skin. Some of the serums I like are the Drunk Elephant C Firma, B Hydra and A-Passioni Retinol, all three available at Sephora. I have several posts here on the blog and on Instagram reviewing this brand and their products. The reason why I like Drunk Elephant is because they are a clean clinical skincare brand. That means their skincare is free of irritants, fragrance and dyes and containing ingredients that are easy for the skin to recognize, absorb and use. I also like the C E Ferulic Serum from Skinceuticals and the Hyaluronic Intensifier from Skinceuticals, both available online thru the Dermstore. Hope this helps. Please keep me posted. All the best, ~ Cat L.
