Happy New Year! I’m so grateful for everyone’s friendship here online and wish you all the best this year and always: love, laughter, amazing memories and dreams that turn into reality! Let’s make 2019 a year to remember! I have a feeling it will be!
As most people out there, I kicked off the new year carefully drafting, reviewing and proclaiming my resolutions. There are several that I’ll be focusing on, one recurring resolution still at the top of my list: living a more meaningful, minimalist and intentionally positive life. And tying into this point, as a sub-resolution of sorts, the question of finances. I would like to be even more selective of my purchases this year and even more careful with how I spend my money. I would like to vow never to pay full-price again but then often times, premium or luxury goods don’t ever go on sale. So, it got me thinking: is there a way to be more strategic and save a little even when it comes to premium, high-end, luxury beauty? Can you buy authentic Tom Ford at a discount? Is there such a thing as paying less for Chanel?
After 3 years of blogging about luxury beauty, here are my tips and tricks for saving on luxury beauty and my go to shopping sites …
Spring is a website that features over 1,500 luxury brands anything from fashion to shoes, beauty and home decor. They offer free shipping, free returns, 4% cash back on every purchase every day and excellent customer service. In addition to the 4% cash back, a few times per year Spring runs sales promotions offering 20-25% off site-wide. I re-purchased my La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation (covered in great detail here) for 20% plus the additional 4% cash back. Other discounted purchases worth mentioning include my set of Tom Ford brushes, La Mer Eye Concentrate (reviewed in a previous blog post here), Chantecaille Butterfly Blush (all Chantecaille Philanthropy blushes swatched here) and Artis Oval 6 (reviewed here).
Dermstore is a Target-owned online website offering skincare, makeup, haircare and bodycare at a small discount. They also have a Rewards Program, offer free shipping, free returns and free samples with every order. Their Friends and Family Sale happens twice a year. It’s the time when everything available on their website can be purchased for 15-25% off. I purchased my By Terry Terrybly Densiliss Serum Foundation (reviewed here) for 20% off and my Skinceuticals Hyaluronic Acid (reviewed here) for 25% off.
Rue La La is a member-only shopping site (membership is free, you sign up with your email) built on buying surplus high-end goods and selling them at a small discount. Thus, it is an excellent place for brand new designer items at a discounted price. I first learned about Rue La La while reading Lauren Conrad’s Style Book and the site quickly become one of my personal favorite online sample sale sites. You can find Chanel, Gucci, Dior and Oribe for as little as 40-60% off retail price. They carry every luxury label you can think of, but advance warning! You gotta act fast, everything goes quickly on this site. Some of my Rue La La scores include Oribe Gold Lust Hair Oil (reviewed in a previous post here) and most of my non-beauty purchases. More notably my Valentinos and Jimmy Choo flats I showed in a previous post here.
Cos Bar is a luxury multi-brand retailer. They offer a rewards program, free shipping and outstanding customer service. Their services are very similar to Spring, but they also have stores that you can visit in person to sample the products. The store I recently visited was the Cos Bar at Brookfield Place in NYC. Cos Bar also includes free samples with purchase. They don’t always have sales, but a few times per year they run promotions and special events.
Feel Younique is Europe’s largest online beauty retailer with over 400 brands available. They carry European names like Charlotte Tilbury, Burberry, Elemis, Caudalie and Bourjois just to name a few. Since these products are made in Europe, often times they are available for a better price at Feel Younique. Shipping to the US is not free, but it’s only $3.95 regardless of quantity. So you save by purchasing more. I purchased my Burberry Kisses Lipstick featured in a previous post here for 25% off. At the moment, Burberry eyeshadow palettes retail on Feel Younique for $53.20 here, while in the States they’re available for $62. I have previously swatched some of the Burberry eyeshadow palettes here and here. Feel Younique also includes free samples and various specials throughout the year. One of their programs is the Subscribe & Save. You subscribe to automatically receive your favorite product every month or every 2, 3, 4 months and stay locked into a discounted price.
Other Ways to Save Money
Whether you’re shopping for beauty, fashion or home decor, you can save even more by using Ebates. Simply head over to Ebates, look up the site you’d like to shop, click on the link and let the fun begin.
Another great way to save on high-end beauty is by purchasing in the duty-free when traveling. Depending on the airport, you can pretty much find any luxury beauty brand under the sun. All tax-free.
Shopping for beauty at department stores like Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus is a great experience as well (although discounts are rare and products are never free of sale tax). But their customer service and return policies are some of the best I’ve experienced. If you decide to purchase from Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus, I would suggest purchasing online and using Ebates.
